Special issue in Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems

A special issue in Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems will be dedicated to the management of organic residues and manures in agriculture. Original manuscripts of research presented at RAMIRAN 2025 on the management of organic resources and manures in agriculture can be submitted. Manuscripts should contribute to an improved mechanistic understanding and have significant novelty in order to be included in this special issue.

Aims and Scope of this Special Issue This Special Issue considers original manuscripts of research presented at RAMIRAN 2025 on the management of organic resources and manures in agriculture. Manuscripts should contribute to an improved mechanistic understanding and have significant novelty in order to be included in this special issue. Manuscripts are invited on the following topics:

  • Agronomic value of manure and organic resources from food processing, waste water treatment, and municipal bio-waste, including new products.

  • Greenhouse gas emissions from the production, storage, and use of organic resources, and the development and scientific underpinning of mitigation strategies.

  • Emissions of ammonia, nitrogen oxides, and other air pollutants from organic resources, including novel measurement techniques.

  • Effects of organic resource use on water quality.

  • Effects of organic resource use on soil quality.

  • Integral studies on the management of organic resources and emissions of different compounds and possible trade-offs at scales from field to continent.

  • Studies on policies and regulations related to the use of organic resources.

The submission deadline is 30 March 2026. Guest editors are Gerard Velthof (Wageningen University & Research) and Jochen Mayer (Agroscope).
